Expect “Moore” ….. a note from your PTA President

Do you smell that spaghetti? It is just around the corner. The 2nd annual Dodd Family Spaghetti Dinner is Friday, February 19. All of our food is being donated by area restaurants. Please check out the flyer (to be coming home soon) to see what restaurants are helping us out this year. Please remember to help your kids sell those raffle tickets for the iPod Touch (32GB) or $300 Visa. So far, the raffle sales aren’t looking so hot. We’re hoping people have sold a bunch and just haven’t turned them in. You can get more raffle tickets in the school office if needed. The raffle drawing will be at 7pm at the spaghetti dinner. We hope to see your there.

Remember that the spaghetti dinner & raffle are one of our major fundraisers. If this fundraiser is successful, this is what the funds will be used for: BMX biker (all day) assembly stressing importance of bike safety, saying no, violence prevention, self-esteem & goal setting; Dodd Family Sock Hop; Dodd Family Movie Night; teacher appreciation week; Earth Day Celebration; water day on the last day of school; and field day.

(Recap from last newsletter in case you missed it) Looking forward to April and May…….just so you can mark your calendars. Friday, April 16th, will be our 2nd annual Dodd Sock Hop. If you joined us last year, you know how much fun it was. If you missed it, you won’t want to miss out on the fun this year. Field Day is scheduled for Friday, May 14th. I’m letting everyone know about this early because we rely greatly on volunteers to make this a success. I know most parents that volunteer need to request off work for that day, so, now you know the date.

Don’t forget about our paper recycling contest that is going on right now. Currently Dodd is in 4th place. We are competing against every elementary school in Wylie. We will be holding this contest until the end of March. Please bring your junk mail, catalogs, school papers, etc. to the green and yellow Paper Retriever bins in the back parking lot at the school.

Can’t wait to see everyone at the spaghetti dinner. We are planning food for 400 so show up early to make sure you get a plate. 1st come, 1st served.

Expect “Moore” ….. a note from your PTA President

The holiday season has passed already. I hope all of you had a very Merry Christmas and Happy New year. I find it hard to believe that we are already in 2010. Let’s hope it’s going to be a wonderful year. Here at Dodd, your PTA will be doing what we can to make it a great year for all students and staff.

On Friday, February 19th, we will be having our 2nd annual spaghetti dinner here at Dodd. We will be having a raffle again also. More information will be coming home with your child soon.

Also in February, our last classroom party of the school year will be on February 12th. Check with your room mom to see how you can help.

Thank you to all of the dads that have volunteered their time in our Watch D.O.G. program. This program has been such a success. The kids love having their dads at school helping out.

As always, if you have the time, try to make it up to the school to volunteer. There are multiple volunteer opportunities waiting for you. Hope everyone has a happy and healthy 2010.

Staff Appreciation

Thank you for all the help for the December lunch for the Staff, it was an awesome turnout! The Staff really appreciated it!

For January, I'm going to do a healthy snack basket for the Staff. No volunteers needed this time, thought everyone needed a break after the holidays.

In February sometime around Valentine's Day we will be doing Brownies and Strawberries. My budget will pay for the strawberries, but I need volunteers to make brownies. I'll be sending out an email towards the end of January to give a date and get volunteers.

Thanks as always for all your help to show the Staff how much we appreciate them!

Reflections 2011-2012 Theme Search

Congratulations to our very own, Chloe Lope! Her theme was one of 5 selected to compete at the National level. The Texas PTA received approximately 550 theme ideas. As you may or may not know, National PTA selects one entry from approximately 250 entries from across the 50 states to be the Reflections theme. This is done 2 years in advance, so the winning theme idea chosen will be the Reflections theme for 2011-1012. National PTA will announce the winner at their Convention in June 2010. The winning entry will be posted on their website when it is announced. Good Luck Chloe!!
