Expect Moore…a note from our president

What fun the carnival was!!! Many of you were able to join us with your family for a night full of fun and excitement. Thanks to all of you that volunteered to help, it wouldn’t have been successful without you.

The holiday season is upon us. I hope all of you had a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Before we know it, Christmas will be here & gone again. Whatever you are planning for this holiday season, please enjoy these times with your family and friends.
We will be having a holiday gift shop (Peppermint Village) in the library December 8-12. This opportunity is available for the students to come and shop for their parents, grandparents and/or siblings. The holiday season is about the spirit of giving and this allows the students to think about giving rather than receiving. More information will be sent home w/ students the 1st week in December.

Until Next Year,
Allison Moore

Winter Class Parties

The room parents are already working hard to plan the winter parties for the classrooms. Please respond quickly to any letters they send home as your support is vital for the success of these parties. The kids have such a wonderful time getting to celebrate together before the break and without your help, it is really difficult to pull it all together. A special thank you to all the parents who gave supplies and/or their time for the fall parties! We couldn't do it without
you!

Expect “Moore” - A Note from your President

Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year! I hope that everyone had an incredible and exciting summer. I look forward to serving as your PTA president. We have a GREAT PTA board this year and are excited about getting the year started. I would like to invite all of you to get involved, as there are many volunteer opportunities here at Dodd Elementary. We have several upcoming events and fundraisers planned and we will be taking a different approach than in previous years.

Although we have several fundraisers planned for this upcoming school session, we are always looking for more innovative and unique ways to raise money for our students and our school. I truly feel that the more active and involved parents become, the more satisfied you will be with the PTA’s efforts to serve our students. We welcome not only your thoughts and opinions, but your time and effort in volunteering as well. It would be amazing to see what we could accomplish if everyone could find a way to contribute.

We are in high hopes that we will not have to resort to catalog fundraiser sales this year. Our two main fundraisers will be a “Welcome Back To School” spaghetti dinner and raffle on Thursday, September 18, and a fall carnival and silent auction planned for November. We hope you will join us for these family events.

The PTA funds many events throughout the school year. We welcome you to come to one of our general PTA meetings to review our budget and get “in the know” about what your PTA is doing. Our 1st general meeting is planned for Tuesday, September 16 at 7:00pm. We will have a representative from WISD here to discuss and answer questions about the upcoming WISD bond election.

Again, I’m very excited to be serving as your PTA president and look forward to a great year.

Sincerely,
Allison Moore
Dodd Elementary PTA President

Save the Date…September 18

In lieu of catalog and cookie sales based fundraising, this year we’re trying something different. SPAGHETTI!!! Plates will be $5 each and all proceeds go directly to YOUR children in the way of great programs like character building programs, AR store, field day, teacher appreciation, cultural art programs, and more!! Please mark your calendar and plan to take a night off from the kitchen.

We’ve Got Spirit…yes we do!

PTA is offering lots of new ways to show your Dodd-Dino Spirit this year! T-shirts, sweat shirts, polo shirts, pencils etc. Watch for order forms to come home with your child. We’ll also have order booths set up at our various activities this year.

Support Your Teacher on the Web!

Many teachers pay out of pocket for classroom supplies because there just isn’t room in the school’s budget.

Support your child & your teacher by visiting www.supportyourteacher.org and purchasing educational items that are shipped directly to your child’s classroom. Each teacher at Dodd has created a wish list there. Create a login, search for your teacher and voila! Let the giving begin! Because classroom supplies shouldn’t come from teacher’s paychecks.

Make a difference…VOLUNTEER

You make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give.
-- Winston Churchill

One hour a month? One hour a week? Ten minutes a day? Great! We welcome any time commitment that you are willing to make to your children, your school, your teachers, your PTA. There are several board positions still open, but if you don’t want to serve on the board, we still have lots to do and never take your willingness to serve with us for granted. Please contact Allison Moore at allib5@verizon.net for more information.

Recycle

Your Support Needed!!
We are looking for an Environmental Chairperson. Anyone interested in organizing recycle programs & other enviromental awareness activities, please contact Allison Moore @ allib5@verizon.net
